Hedge Funds have
been the fastest growing sector of
investment in recent years. Total
assets currently invested in this
area are estimated at over US $800
billion. Global hedge fund assets
continued to grow at a rate of 20%
at the end of 2005, according to
the International Monetary Fund.
Many private investors now wish to
gain access to these funds, which
have hitherto been restricted to
the very wealthy.
The
FSA has authorised around 160
managers who are specialist hedge
funds managers and the number has
been growing rapidly. The FSA also
estimate that there are another 90
authorised managers who have added
hedge fund mandates to an
established fund management
business.
